Plan the Warp for Mini-Runner #1: How much warp does this project require? This table loom is 10" wide in the reed, so let’s plan a runner 10" wide. For a balanced weave, 3/2 cotton setts at 12 epi. Multiply 10" by 12 epi equalling 120 total warp ends. Determine the length of the sample and the runner, add in take-up and loom waste, and consider shrinkage. Since the runner is 8" wide after draw-in and finishing, a simple proportion that works is to make a runner 3 x 8 = a finished length of 24" long. Warp shrinkage for Mini-Runner #1 is expected to be approximately 15 percent, so weave it 3" to 4" longer equalling 28". Add another ½ yard for take-up and loom waste on a table loom equals 18". Add 2" at each end for hems equalling 4". The total so far is 50". Allow 12" for sampling, to cut off and wet-finish, and tie back on equalling another ½ yard. This total is over 2 yards, so round up to 2½ yards.

Plan the Weft: Multiply 120 warps by 2½ yards equalling 300 yards of warp. Since you use the same yarn for weft in this 50/50 weave, plan 300 yards weft.

Plan the Warp for Mini-Runner #2: This runner has fringe, so weave a heading of one inch at both ends to anchor the fringe. Insert two 2" cardboard spacers at each end for fringe equalling 4". The total fringe is 10". To the total warp above of 2½ yards we add this 10", round up to 3 yards; Multiply 120 by 3 yards equalling 360 yards for warp (color 1).

Plan the Weft: Select a color that is closely related, such as a darker or lighter color than the warp, as here. For this 50/50 weave, plan the same amount of weft as warp: 360 yards.
